Monday, January 4th, 2010Parents: Did (or will) you take your child’s “lovey” away when you think they are “too old” for it?
My son is 7 and he has 3 white blankets and a mountain of stuffed animals he sleeps with. He HAS to have at least the 3 blankets and his country time cheer bear care bear http://cgi.ebay.com/CARE-BEAR-CHEER-COUNTRY-FUN-SPECIAL-EDITION-9-2006-NWT-/270584559481?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f0018b779. And yes, he is a boy and 7 years old LOL! Did or will you tell your child that he/she is too old to sleep with a stuffed animal/blanket? Or will you just let them grow out of it? I am planning on letting my son outgrow this. (He will eventually not want to sleep with a PINK care bear, right?) I am 26 years old and I have slept with my puffalump since I was a baby. I still have it and sometimes do still sleep with it. Call me childish, but if I am not holding onto it during the night, I feel alone and scared. Even with my husband beside me.
He just sleeps with it. And if he forgets it at home when he spends the night somewhere, he doesn’t have to have it.
I’d let him decide. I mean, I can’t imagine he’ll be taking them to college with him, you know? At some point, he’ll let go on his own.
And if he doesn’t, he’ll know he found the right woman when she’s okay with sleeping with him, blankets, and a mountian of stuffed animals.
